Publication:
Culver City, CA: Columbia Pictures, 1982
Description:
Early Draft script for the 1995 film, "Screamers," seen here under its working title, "Dragon's Teeth." The script itself is dated 1982, over ten years between script writing and the film's release. Bound at the rear are appendices, and a colored map of Soviet and United Nations territories during World War III. Shot on location in Canada.
Based on the 1953 short story "Second Variety," by Philip K. Dick, the story takes place in the year 2078 on a distant mining planet ravaged by a decade of war (WWIII), where scientists have created the perfect weapon: a self-replicating army of killing machines called "Screamers." They have continued to evolve without any human guidance, and eventually seek to destroy all of life. Joe Hendricksson (Weller) leads a group of soldiers still alive on the mining planet, Sirius 6B, and decides he must negotiate a peace treaty with enemy forces. To do so, he will have to cross a wasteland full of Screamers.
