First, unlike competitors who claim to provide "manufacturer refurbished" motors, Margarita Guys is a Bunn certified repair center and is the only place on ebay you'll find a Bunn factory certified repair center selling parts and providing free troubleshooting and installation advice from Bunn certified Journeyman Technicians.  Bunn does not hand these certifications out freely -- it is a long process that requires years of Bunn training and experienced technicians, maintenance of a stock of thousands of Bunn parts in our warehouse, specialized tools, federally certified refrigeration technicians (working with refrigerants without this certification carries a ,000 fine), plus paying for a boatload of insurance.  If you want to buy from an independent guy who works out of his garage and drop ships parts or worse sells phony knock-off parts made overseas and represents them as Bunn parts, be our guest but don't call us for free advice in troubleshooting your machine -- talk to the guy you bought your parts from.
This is a
completely rebuilt
Bunn Factory auger motor for the Bunn CDS machine. It is not simply removed from an old machine and sold to you (buying a used motor that has not been rebuilt is a crap shoot -- when will that used motor fail?). Nor is it a no-name generic part with no warranty. The new item part number is 28093.1000 (with list price of over 0 plus shipping).
THIS IS NOT, "Fully cleaned and tested by our technicians"
as our competitors explain about their "refurbished" motor (that means wiping it off, putting in new grease and painting the outside). Our motors are completely taken apart, cleaned internally and externally,
rebuilt with new parts (bushings, ball bearings, roller bearings, tension washers, tension bearings, etc.)
then internally lubricated with modern lubricants and then tested on our custom test jig. Taking apart a motor and regreasing it without replacing worn parts is pretty futile -- you end up with a used motor containing worn out parts with new grease.  See below for more information. Unlike the competition, we warranty our rebuilt motors for six months. Look at the photos at just two of the five drawers of specialized internal parts and lubricants we keep stocked in our dedicated motor rebuild workbench. (notice the q-tips, used to get every bit of old grease out the nooks and crannies of the transmission). We don't "spray paint" our motors when they are done -- there's no need, they look new!
We send you a rebuilt motor via Priority Mail the day you pay for it and then you return your old motor to us at our expense (we include a prepaid return label plus all the lubricantsn (lubri-film plus, krytox, application brush), illustrated detailed installation instructions)
-- the competitors want you to send your motor to them first at your expense and then wait while they spraypaint it to look new.  You have to wait without a motor for what may be weeks.  Our warranty is twice as long. You figure it out -- anybody can clean and regrease an auger motor, it takes our Bunn factory trained Journeyman Technicians with all the proper tools, parts, custom jigs, and supplies to do the job completely and correctly. All we can say is would you take your car engine to be "rebuilt" where all they did was open it up, emptied the old oil, filled it with new oil, and threw some spray paint on it? Of course not, so don't fall into the trap of doing that with what the competition is offering.
We refurbish this motor and transmission by taking everything apart, completely cleaning all the individual components in an industrial parts washer and removing old internal grease, replacing bushings, seals and bearings, replacing the motor bearings with new high quality bearings, replacing the original gearbox grease with a superior high temperature lubricant, cleaning, checking and replacing as necessary the shaft torsion bearing insert and pin, putting the unit back together and then testing the rebuilt unit. We provide a
six month warranty
with this rebuilt unit (excludes customer damage or damage from fluid leaks or damage from non-motor electrical problems).
We also provide installation instructions with color annotated photos as well as the lubricants required for proper installation -- Krytox lubricant, Lubri-Film lubricant, and a lubricant application brush (well over value).

You get your rebuilt motor in two or three days -- who knows how long it will take to send yours to the competition, have the competition clean and paint it, and then send it back?  To receive the refund your motor must be in rebuildable condition. For example, a rebuildable motor will have all parts attached (including bracket); internal components are all present; gears, shafts, and certain major components are not damaged; the transmission case is not cracked or damaged; and the motor assembly as a whole has not been destroyed or been in a fire (yep, we've seen it). The most common problem that prevents a motor from being rebuildable is the destruction of one or more gears due to running the motor after a component has seized and the motor has started making noises. When your motor starts making grinding or straining noises stop it immediately to preserve the core and order a rebuilt motor right away. Continuing to operate a damaged motor may make it unrepairable.  We also sometimes find motors where people have tried to repair it themselves, usually using the wrong parts, leaving parts out, or putting parts back togethter improperly.  If you're not an expert in electric geared-down motors, leave it to the pros.
The picture in the listing is representative only (this shows a pre-rebuilt motor). The motor you receive may have a different appearance but will perform properly in your Bunn machine. There have been several models and suppliers over the almost twenty years Bunn has sold CDS and Ultra machines, so while form fit and function remain the same the motor's appearance and manufacturer occasionally differs slightly. The exact look of your motor will depend on from whom Bunn was purchasing motors when your machine was built, but they all fit the same, operate the same, and have the same warranty regardless of manufacturer.
These geared-down auger motors are pretty sturdy, but they do
fail. Early motor demise can be caused by failure of the auger shaft seal at the front of the cooling drum -- product leaks around a failed seal through the auger shaft alley into the auger motor. The other often seen problem is failure of the gear box, usually due to failure of the original lubricant within the gearbox. The internal motor shaft bearings can fail and seize the motor as can the gear bushings and/or bearings. We occasionally receive used motors as cores that are often run for long times after they start to make noise, and usually the transmission case and internal components are destroyed and they are not rebuildable and the core charge cannot be refunded. When your motor starts to make noises, it is time to replace it before it is too late to be rebuilt.  Sometimes we receive cores where someone has tried to repair the motor and used an incompatible part, damaging the motor and making it un-repairable.
