A film made at what was arguably the maturation point for the Women's Liberation movement that began in the mid-late 1960s, in which MacLaine and Bancroft portray former dance colleagues whose lives have gone separate ways (one becomes a professional dancer, the other a settled domestic woman), and whose unexpected reunion yields dramatic consequences. Nominated for 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Screenplay.
