One of the first helicopters developed by Bell, the H13 is a derivative of the Bell Model 30, which was developed as early as 1943. It first flew in 1945 and was delivered to US forces in Korea in January 1951.

Bell H-13 Sioux
Originally designed as a single engine, light helicopter for use by civilians, the Bell H-13 Sioux first flew on December 8, 1945 as the Bell 47 prototype. Later re-designated H-13 by the United States Army Air Forces, the improved
aircraft was used as an observation and basic training helicopter. The design is characterized by a full bubble canopy, skid landing gear and welded-tube tail boom. It has two high-level mounted saddle fuel tanks and a two bladed single rotor. The H-13 was immortalized by the long-running television show M.A.S.H., where it was portrayed in its role as a medivac aircraft.
