This is a brand new from the Factory sealed Refrigerant Filter Dryer Assembly with the correct size (length and diameter) copper capillary tubing for the Bunn CDS-2 machine.  You get both the dryer and the capillary tubing (with tubing already brazed to the dryer) -- no hunting down the correct size or cutting the correct length of capillary tubing and having to finish off the cut ends or braze to the dryer.  Whenever you open the refrigeration system for repair you should replace the filter/dryer, and having the correct filter/dryer and correct size and length capillary tube already brazed in place is a giant time saver and ensures your refrigeration system will perform properly (wrong diameter, wrong length, or sloppy cut on regulating end of capillary tube will negatively affect your system).  This dryer has two inputs (one for each solenoid), and it is not always easy to try to find a generic filter with the properly sized two ports in one for input and one port out for a capillary tube, and that will physically fit into your machine.
The replacement of this part requires the evacuation and refilling of the refrigerant (Freon) in your machine and must be done by an EPA-certified refrigeration technician.
A refrigerant filter/dryer does exactly what it says -- it filters impurities and eliminates moisture from the refrigerant in your refrigeration system.  In an ideal world only refrigerant and oil are in the closed refrigerant loop of your machine.  Since ideal is impossible to attain, even with lots of effort to thoroughly evacuate and dry a system there is almost always some moisture (water) trapped in your system.  Other impurities (non-refrigerant compounds) are likewise introduced into your system and can also form as the oil or refrigerant break down over time and use.  At a minimum, any time a closed system is opened for a "major" repair, replacement of this component is required.
The length and inside diameter of the capillary tubing is specifically designed for your machine.  It is effectively what regulates the changing of the freon from a liquid to a gas, which is the very process that "creates" cold.  The capillary tubing must be the exact correct length and correct internal diameter with a perfectly cut end.  Given it's small diameter, it's often hard to get a perfectly clean opening at the end where the freon regulation from liquid to gas occurs -- this component makes replacement of the filter a much easier task and eliminates work and the potential for errors and re-work.
This part is discontinued as Bunn has declared the CDS machines obsolete.  We have a few on hand, and this is an opportunity to avoid the hassles of fitting a universal filter and cutting and fitting capillary tubing.
